The conundrum of the art of photography…
Are visual artists, particularly photographers, graduating from MFA programs, becoming theorists rather than technicians? Up until a few years ago, going to a museum or art gallery to see a photography exhibition meant looking at images. The focus was on the art work. At most, there was some basic information on the artist, the title of the piece (though often the works went untitled), the method, and the size. Nowadays, the artist is required to develop an in-depth analysis on the whirlpools in their minds at the moment of conception and throughout the process of creation. The more verbiage, the more relevant the artwork seems to become. Are modern viewers incapable to discern what they are looking at without a manifesto? Is the craft of photography getting lost for the sake of elevating it?
On the other hand, most everybody nowadays is a photographer with a camera/cell phone in hand almost continuously, ready to shoot and post on social media in no time. Are we at the crux of the world of photography? Are these two different species? Should we come up with new monikers to separate who is and who is not a photographer?
I would love to hear your opinion.

I’m very happy with the triptych I will present at Aqua Art Miami. It has a neat translucency and feel of movement -just like real water! The image to the left is a preview.
You will also be able to see the triphtych at the opening at Kabuni House, Nov 10, before it ships to Miami.
Come by!
