Summer News…
Hope you have been enjoying the beautiful days! I’ve tried to be out and about whenever possible but there is always much more to do than its possible which I think is good as it keeps us, at least me, thinking of the next time I’ll be able to do what I missed today…
I would like to recommend the exhibition at the Museum of Anthropology . at UBC, Traces of Words. It’s about contemporary calligraphy from 7 artists from 7 Asian countries. 7 totally different takes. All interesting, profound, and current. Calligraphy permeates life in Asia, it is not just a way of writing, it is intertwined in most aspects of life. One of the exhibitors is teamLab, an interdisciplinary collaborative of scientists of all fields, based in Tokyo. Their presentation is an interactive computer-generated spectacle combining Sino-Japanese calligraphy symbols which transform into different images when the viewer touches it. It’s kind of magical and fun. Children love it, as well as adult/children… The curator, Fuyubi Nakamura, will do two curator tours on August 26 and Saturday, October 7 at 1 pm. Check it here: What a Loving, and Beautiful World
And, last but not least, I have work at two events in the Harmony Arts Festival, West Vancouver, the Group Exhibition and ArtBeat.
The opening reception for the Group Exhibition is this Friday, August 4, 6-7pm, at Ambleside Landing, 1414 Argyle Avenue. The show stays open until August 13, opens daily from 11 am to 9 pm.
ArtBeat’s opening is on Saturday, August 5, 10 am to 5 pm. There will be music, artist demonstrations and more throughout the day. My artwork is at Expedia Cruises, 2434 Marine Drive, Dundarave. The work remains there up until August 13.
I look forward to seeing you either day or both! If you want to set up an appointment at a specific day and time, just drop me a line. Will love to catch up with you.
