A rising Vancouver artist, de la Cajiga, set to inaugurate the art galleries at Emily Carr University of Art and Design…

The first art exhibition at the new campus, curated by Martin Harrisons, former curator of photography at the Victoria & Albert Museum and the National Portrait Gallery in London, will introduce the latest works of Carolina de la Cajiga, a rising Vancouver artist, chosen to be the first to hang her work in our galleries in consideration to her provocative composite photographic work. Her “City in Flux” transmutations of our city have brought international acclaim, particularly her multilayered artworks ‘Wall Centre Towers Over English Bay’ and “Lions Gate Bridge under Construction”.  A few images of the installation attached.

De la Cajiga approaches the challenging subject of the future of our city in an imaginative manner steering clear of any political propaganda. Her work is informed by the limiting boundaries Vancouver has –water and mountains- and proposes riveting artistic solutions which defy engineering protocols and planners’ minds to create unique urban environments never seen before.

This first exhibition will highlight the key role Emily Carr University of Art and Design plays not only in our city and province but across Canada and indeed the world. We are leaders in an age of accelerating change. We define the future through critical and decisive creativity. Our future is your future!
