Black Ribbon. Sadness for the Trump government in the U.S.

Black Ribbon. Why?

I’m not really inspired to write… Since the election of Trump, I’ve been feeling under the weather, to say the least.  I find it difficult to focus on art with all the barbaric news coming from the U.S.  After George Bush, I thought I would never see anything similar but, here we are again. At that time, I did various artworks to acknowledge what was going on, including our participation in the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan. You can see them here,

In those years, I got in trouble with the police on various occasions. Here in Vancouver, when taking my portrait of Bush to the demonstrations; some RCMP tried to stop me and confiscate the 8″ painting. And once when crossing the border to take the ‘United States of Fear’ installation to ship to Miami. This instance got quite scary, I thought I would be detained.  I understand what the people detained today at U.S. airports are going through.

Crumbling White House, Washington, and La Rielera

La Rielera wondering what is going on at the White House. She asks, ‘What Did We Do? When Did We Lose the Compass?’

The images in this post are my artwork in response to the current situation: the black ribbon, Why?,  White House & La Rielera, and my poster for the Women’s Demonstration. If interested, I will send you a jpeg of the poster by itself for your own use. Just send me a note.

On another matter, best wishes to two grand dames…

I would like to thank two outstanding women who have just retired after devoting their lives to art. In alphabetical order as both are as relevant, Linda Fell at the North Vancouver Community Arts Council, and Ruth Payne at the Ferry Building Gallery, West Vancouver. For a long time, they enriched and innovated the art world in the North Shore. Congratulations, enjoy your new lives!

And last, I am now preparing work for the annual celebration of photography, Capture Festival, April 1 – 28, 2017.

Will keep you posted as the work progress.

Truly hoping that March and the following months will bring better news…
