Eros in the Mexican Kitchen

Confining women to the kitchen created a magic realm which, throughout the years, has been embraced by female artists. There is a long tradition of culinary erotic fiction, which culminated with Laura Esquivel’s paradigmatic Like Water for Chocolate novel. In this series, I play with the sinuous shapes of the Chile to create an aphrodisiac pictorial illusion. I want the viewer to fantasize, to experiment with all his or her senses; to imagine the fragrance of the spices, the voluptuous flesh of the Chile, the mouth watering first bite…

Confinar a las mujeres a la cocina creó un mundo mágico que, a través de los años, mujeres artistas han aprovechado. Hay una larga tradición de ficción culinaria erótica que culminó con la novela paradigmática de Laura Esquivel Como Agua para Chocolate.  En esta serie, juego con las formas sinuosas del chile poblano para crear una ilusión pictórica y erótica. Quiero que el espectador fantasée y experimente con todos sus sentidos, que imagine la fragancia y sienta la carne voluptuosa del chile, que se le haga agua la boca…
